I feel fortunate having lived to see many great changes in the way people think, act and believe. People as special as Nelson Mandela show what seemed impossible is entirely possible.
He didn't stop fighting for the rights of black South Africans despite a prison sentence, and many fights. When he was imprisoned for 27 years, instead of losing his spirit, he never gave up his work for peace and freedom.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for all his work to dismantle the country's apartheid system. In 1994, Mandela was made South Africa's first black president - the ultimate reward for someone who refused to stop until his dreams became reality. The video below tells the story of his journey from living in a hut to become the leader of his country.
Whenever you doubt your ability to make a difference, or you can't imagine your dreams will ever come true - be inspired by someone you look up to, like Nelson Mandela. I know I'm grateful for the peace he brought to a very divided country, and for showing the world that discrimination is always wrong.

“For to be free is not merely to cast off one’s chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others.” ~ Nelson Mandela
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite." ~ Nelson Mandela
