But when we continue to look outside of ourselves for solutions, we neglect the biggest resource we have - everything that is already waiting inside of us.
When you can detach yourself from your present circumstances, and relax to quieten your mind, that is when you accept that you, and you alone, are responsible for everything that happens to you.
It is the detaching from overwhelming stress that is the challenge. When your mind is chaotic it races from one bad memory to another, collecting negativity, and you're unable to think clearly - you just make yourself feel worse.
Making yourself stop searching for the answer is the answer.
I know how crazy that sounds, and I know you'll be saying:
"I've got bills to pay now."
"I've lost my job."
"I can't afford the rent, so I'll lose my home."
All of these situations naturally make you feel frightened, so your mind automatically closes down and restricts your capacity to find a logical way through to the other side.
This is why you need to stop. Simply stop everything - especially stop thinking.
It is your thoughts that are creating a scary future that hasn't happened yet. When something bad happens, your mind leaps forward and shows you pictures of how it's all going to get worse, so you feel out of control, and unable to cope.
That's an awful place to be, and all that stress only makes you feel more awful. But you are the one making yourself feel like this by allowing your mind to send you these false scenarios.
Only by stopping can you regain control of your thoughts. You have to find a way to break the pattern. Just saying the word, "Stop!" is sufficient to halt the flow of negative thoughts. This gives you a space to become aware of what you're doing to yourself.
You have given yourself time to take a deep, slow breath, and choose a more positive thought. This leads you away from the fear-based feeling of overwhelm to opening the door of possibilities.
