Peace of mind is the most valuable state you can achieve.
You could be the richest person in the world, but if your emotions are out of control, then you can't enjoy all the opportunities you have at your fingertips.
Someone who can calm their emotions is richer than anyone with material wealth.
Once you know how to cope with whatever life throws at you, instead of reacting instantly, you save yourself from all the illnesses that stress causes. When you react without taking time to consider a reasoned response, you say words that can't be forgotten, and hurt others as well as yourself.
When you act calmly, that is how others will behave around you, so you create a life filled with peace. The more serenity you experience, the more you will know how to avoid situations that could upset you.
Being able to access peace means you can let go of anything that would have previously made you stressed and unhappy. You don't have to hold on to anything that prevents your mind from being in a peaceful state.
It's only when you're calm and relaxed that you can think rationally, and find clear solutions. When you make decisions from this place, they will be the right ones for you - not snap decisions made when your mind is in turmoil, which only complicate things further.
Life really can be much simpler - make the choice to have peace of mind, and you can find happiness - no matter what your present circumstances are.
"If a person’s basic state of mind is serene and calm, then it is possible for this inner peace to overwhelm a painful physical experience. On the other hand, if someone is suffering from depression, anxiety, or any form of emotional distress, then even if he or she happens to be enjoying physical comforts, he will not really be able to experience the happiness that these could bring." ~ Tenzin Gyatso, 14th Dalai Lama
"The poor long for riches, the rich long for heaven, but the wise long for a state of tranquility." ~ Swami Rama
