I grew up in a house where the TV was only bought to watch sport on - so I had to enjoy it! I've followed many different sports, and tried a few too. I was especially proud of the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and I loved watching how all the countries came together in peace to enjoy their experience - setting aside that some were at war with each other.
The Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, have proved to be entirely different. Even before the games started there were rumours of homophobia, which have gone on to be confirmed by the Russian government.
I'm very thankful that I live in the UK where we can openly make fun of the ridiculous ignorance, without fear of reprisals. I can't imagine living in Russia where you can't be honest about who you love.
Love is universal, and nobody has the right to deny the freedom to express love. Please stand up for what is right when you have the opportunity. If you don't stand up for love - then there is no point to human existence - everything begins and ends in love.
The house I grew up in was filled with bigotry and hate, and I was in a constant battle against my strict father. I learned I couldn't change him - but it was embedded in me from a young age that pure, unconditional love is essential. I won't settle for less - and neither should you.
Turn away from judging anyone who is different to you.
Turn towards every example of unconditional love.
You don't have to fight daily battles to stand up for love - just know in your heart what is right, and follow that path.

“Where love is concerned, too much is not even enough.” ~ Pierre de Beaumarchais (1732 - 1799)
“A part of you has grown in me. And so you see, it's you and me together forever and never apart, maybe in distance, but never in heart.” ~ Anonymous
The fountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the ocean,
The winds of Heaven mix forever
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle.
Why not I with thine?
~ Percy Bysshe Shelley
