Do you regularly watch TV soaps?
Are you aware that these programmes are constantly filled with arguments, fights, betrayals, disasters? Or do you just accept that this is a normal part of a TV drama?
If you take all this negative behaviour for granted, and don't question whether it is normal, or acceptable, then you absorb it as part of your life. You invite the violence and dysfunctional relationships into your home, and then you discuss the characters with your friends, so you create a reality of these dramas.
Even though your logical, conscious mind knows it is highly unlikely for an aeroplane to crash out of the sky in the middle of the countryside, for example, your subconscious mind has still viewed the tragedy, and it has established the possibility that it can happen, where it didn't exist before.
Just that element of possibility has shifted you by adding fear, horror and sadness. Your life will improve when you decide to avoid watching soaps, because you will have hours free to spend doing something positive and uplifting which you enjoy. Focusing on what makes you happy will only make you happier!
Do you choose to watch disturbing documentaries?
While it is good to be aware of what goes on in the world, so that you can then change it, it is not good to choose to watch depressing, violent or sad documentaries every week. If you become engrossed in the lives of those in prison for murder, or watch painful hospital operations, then you are filling yourself with negative emotions. This is not the way to attract the life you really want.
Never watch the news!
Do you watch the news on TV before you go to bed? You are not likely to have peaceful dreams when you have filled your thoughts with the disasters happening all over the world. You can become upset, and feel powerless, which can lead to overwhelm.
You can choose to feel powerful by finding a cause that has meaning for you, and donate or volunteer so that you know you are making a difference.
When you want to be updated on the news, you can check online where you can choose which headline to read in-depth, without being immersed in the full story of something that upsets you.
Take back control of what you focus on.
Start by setting up an online TV guide to only show certain channels, missing out the news ones. We are bombarded by a massive choice of programmes, without even considering all the satellite channels. Save your subscription fees, and save up for a holiday - it will benefit you far more!
By filling your time with positive information, you will begin to feel different. You will be inspired by others, and you will be inspired by yourself because it feels good knowing you can change.
